caffé roma — a family-owned business since 1977

Founded in 1977 in North Beach, San Francisco by Sergio Azzollini, Caffe Roma is built on the experience of three generations of the Azzollini family. Father Sergio came to San Francisco from Italy to open the first coffeehouse on Columbus Avenue in 1977 and always strived for the best coffee like he had in Italy.  Coffee was always his passion and in 1989 he opened Caffe Roma Coffee Roasting Company with his son Anthony and his son-in-law Frankie, along with his daughters—Irene and Lisa.  In 1995 Caffe Roma expanded their roasting facility to the South of Market (SOMA) area of San Francisco, where all their roasting is done for retail and wholesale.

Caffe Roma's reputation for the highest quality coffee and the warm atmosphere of its two coffee bars have made it the choice of restaurants and individuals alike. You can find Caffe Roma Coffees at many prestigious San Francisco and Bay Area restaurants, or of course you're always welcome to come in for a cup at one of our two retail locations where you can enjoy an espresso or a full-service café. Come by to taste and feel the tastes of Italy and maybe you can even sneak in an Italian lesson at either location: 885 Bryant Street @ 7th (SOMA), in San Francisco and at 143 S. El Camino Real on the border of Millbrae and Burlingame.

The Art of Italian Coffee Roasting

Our family roasts coffee beans all'italiana—slowly, lightly and in small batches, for a smoother, sweeter, more pleasant coffee drinking experience. Salute!
